You build a draft on nights like this. DJ Giddens had no business being available in the Round 7 slot, and the Cowboys did the only sane thing and turned in the card. It does the job without flash, and the B reflects it.
They covered a lot of ground and still skipped quarterback, which is a strange place to end up. They are betting Bryant proves the room right and everyone else wrong.
A workmanlike haul that should hold up just fine.
Pick-by-Pick
A quiet steal in the Round 1 slot: Ashton Jeanty for less than the market said. The roster fit checks out.
The board fumbled Tyler Warren all the way to slot 44, and they scooped it up. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Jalen Royals at No. 76 is money in the bank, a wide receiver taken below his worth. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Smael Mondon Jr. in the 150th overall pick is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
They will replay Anthony Belton at Round 5, Pick 31 for years; that is how good the value is. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
They paid a round early for Cobee Bryant in the 172nd pick, more than the board wanted. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
You do not let a wide receiver like Pat Bryant reach pick 174 and blink. They did not. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
A reasonable price with a little left over, Jaylen Reed in pick No. 190. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
A market-rate interior defensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Cam Horsley. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
A running back of that caliber at the Round 7 slot is the definition of value, full stop. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
