Somewhere a scout is still blinking. The Chargers spent No. 69 on Theo Johnson, a name the board had a full 67 spots lower. No fireworks, but a solid B+.
The trade ledger is the best part of the whole weekend. The Davis pick alone nudges the whole weekend up a notch. The interior defensive lineman hole is the one line item this class does not answer.
A workmanlike haul that should hold up just fine.
Pick-by-Pick
In Round 1, Pick 20 they get an anchor for the offensive line. A real need, handled.
Xavier Worthy in No. 37 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Zach Frazier in the 51st pick is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
A big swing on Theo Johnson at pick 69, well ahead of any board in the building. It fills a real need, too.
They liked Jarvis Brownlee Jr. enough to skip the value, taking him in the Round 4 slot. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
A market-rate linebacker, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Tommy Eichenberg. It adds depth where they could use a little.
They barely believed it either: Isaiah Davis still on the board at pick No. 183. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Eyabi Okie-Anoma at Round 7, Pick 3 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
The board had cheaper options than Khalid Duke at pick 256, and it noticed. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
