After circling the position for what felt like forever, the Patriots committed. Jayden Daniels is the quarterback now, and the roster gets built to his timeline. They executed a plan and it shows in the A-.
The phones were where this weekend was really won. Leaving edge rusher unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall. Adding Drew Dalman by trade rounds out the weekend beyond the rookies.
Every board in the league had Eichenberg lower, and that gap is the story.
Few war rooms will sleep better than this one tonight.
Pick-by-Pick
They took Jayden Daniels at par in the 9th overall pick, which is nothing to complain about. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Xavier Legette in Round 2, Pick 2 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Jonathon Brooks at the Round 2 slot is right where the board had him, plain and simple. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Fair-plus on Kingsley Suamataia, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Jalen McMillan at the 103rd pick is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
They paid up for Tommy Eichenberg at pick 137 when waiting would have done the job. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
AJ Barner at pick No. 180 is money in the bank, a tight end taken below his worth. The roster fit checks out.
They did well to land Johnny Dixon in slot 193, just ahead of his grade. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Michael Barrett at slot 231 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. Depth on depth, at a spot that was hardly crying out.
