The Patriots went off the board in a big way for Que Robinson, 43 picks early. Conviction is one thing; this is another. More right than wrong, and a B- to match.
A whole weekend of picks and interior defensive lineman is somehow still a want. The dealing tilted against them, just enough to notice. It is a bet on later, and a defensible one for a team playing the long game.
Edge rusher is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it.
Nothing here to lose sleep over, and plenty to feel decent about.
Pick-by-Pick
In Round 1, Pick 12 they get a matchup weapon at tight end. A clean fit for the roster.
They did well to land Omarion Hampton in pick 38, just ahead of his grade. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Jayden Higgins in No. 69 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
By-the-book stuff, Ozzy Trapilo at slot 76 squarely in line with his ranking. A need, and now a little less of one.
They paid sticker price for Darien Porter in the 77th pick, and that is fine. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Anthony Belton at the 106th overall pick is right where the board had him, plain and simple. The roster fit checks out.
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Que Robinson. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Logan Brown at the Round 5 slot is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the offensive lineman. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
