Give the war room a raise for the dealing alone. The Patriots came out ahead on every exchange that mattered, and it was not close. No fireworks, but a solid B.
Henderson falling to them is the kind of break a good board is built to catch. A whole weekend of picks and edge rusher is somehow still a want. The Patriots clearly valued win-now help, adding bodies who have done it before.
The McCarthy reach is the anchor dragging on the value grade.
Nothing here to lose sleep over, and plenty to feel decent about.
Pick-by-Pick
Kool-Aid McKinstry at No. 26 is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. A minor itch, scratched.
A premium they did not need to pay, J.J. McCarthy a notch or two before his time. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Tyler Guyton in the Round 2 slot lands just on the right side of the ledger. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
A straight-up fair deal on Brenden Rice at the 68th overall pick, value and slot in agreement. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Sataoa Laumea is a better player than the 139th pick suggests; smart patience, rewarded. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
The board fumbled LaDarius Henderson all the way to slot 182, and they scooped it up. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Good price on Sheridan Jones in pick 224, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. Stacking talent where they were already deep.
