This is the pick they will still be bragging about in July: Sam Roush, the No. 92 name on the board, stolen at the 121st pick. Solid and sensible more than spectacular: a B-.
They covered a lot of ground and still skipped edge rusher, which is a strange place to end up. Job largely done: quarterback settled and 7 of 9 of the wish list covered. Value over need was the throughline, for better and worse.
Not a headline-grabber, but a perfectly good weekend's work.
Pick-by-Pick
In No. 21 they get a building block for the line at fair value. More want than need.
A slide stopped in Round 2, Pick 21, with Anthony Hill Jr. worth more than the price. It fills a real need, too.
Circle this one: Christen Miller at the 76th pick is a fall that decides a draft. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Value with a capital V on Michael Taaffe in slot 85, a genuine coup. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Skyler Bell at the Round 3 slot is money in the bank, a wide receiver taken below his worth. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
They robbed the room for Sam Roush here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
A cornerback of that caliber at the 135th overall pick is the definition of value, full stop. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Drew Allar at pick No. 161 nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
A top-tier wide receiver at a bargain, Josh Cameron in Round 6, Pick 35, plain and simple. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
A reasonable price with a little left over, Keyshaun Elliott in pick 224. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
A tidy bit of business in the 230th overall pick, where Thaddeus Dixon graded well above the range. The roster fit checks out.
They let TJ Hall come to them and pounced at the Round 7 slot. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
