The move everyone will second-guess came early. The Packers reached some 37 spots for Jaylen Wright, and value like that does not grow back. A dependable weekend that grades out a B-.
They covered a lot of ground and still skipped edge rusher, which is a strange place to end up. The Bertrand pick is the one they will point to when this weekend is judged.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the edge rusher spot they never got to.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick 25 they get a press-man option on the boundary at fair value. The biggest hole, addressed.
A premium they did not need to pay, Jackson Powers-Johnson a notch or two before his time. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
By-the-book stuff, Edgerrin Cooper at the 57th overall pick squarely in line with his ranking. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
A straight-up fair deal on McKinnley Jackson at Round 3, Pick 25, value and slot in agreement. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
The board had cheaper options than Jaden Hicks at the Round 3 slot, and it noticed. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
They talked themselves into Jaylen Wright at the 126th pick, and the board did not agree. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Nothing to complain about; Dadrion Taylor-Demerson went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. Pure best-available; the position was not exactly begging.
No drama and no debate, Christian Jones went about where he belonged in the 203rd overall pick. A need, and now a little less of one.
JD Bertrand at No. 216 is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. Stacking talent where they were already deep.
A big swing on Isaac Guerendo at slot 243, well ahead of any board in the building. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Daequan Hardy at Round 7, Pick 31 is money in the bank, a cornerback taken below his worth. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
