The best pick of the weekend was also the simplest. The Packers watched Xavier Legette slide 90 picks past his grade and did not hesitate.

They are betting Williams proves the room right and everyone else wrong. The edge rusher hole is the one line item this class does not answer. The roster is better shaped than it was, with cornerback chief among the fixes.

In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the edge rusher spot they never got to.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.25 · Pick 25 · Cooper DeJean · CB · rank 13
Cooper DeJean is a better player than the 25th overall pick suggests; smart patience, rewarded. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
R2.9 · Pick 41 · Edgerrin Cooper · LB · rank 57
They went early on Edgerrin Cooper in the 41st pick, and the value did not follow. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
R2.25 · Pick 57 · Kamren Kinchens · S · rank 34
You do not let a safety like Kamren Kinchens reach the Round 2 slot and blink. They did not. A minor need, but a need all the same.
R3.25 · Pick 88 · Christian Mahogany · OG · rank 79
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Christian Mahogany at pick No. 88. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
R3.28 · Pick 91 · Bucky Irving · RB · rank 92
Bucky Irving in slot 91 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
R4.26 · Pick 126 · Xavier Legette · WR · rank 36
Somehow Xavier Legette was still sitting there in Round 4, Pick 26, and they pounced on premier wide receiver value. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
R5.32 · Pick 168 · Isaiah Davis · RB · rank 188
Isaiah Davis at No. 168 is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
R6.28 · Pick 203 · LaDarius Henderson · OT · rank 167
Circle this one: LaDarius Henderson at pick 203 is a fall that decides a draft. The roster fit checks out.
R6.41 · Pick 216 · Curtis Jacobs · LB · rank 183
They barely believed it either: Curtis Jacobs still on the board at the 216th pick. They added to a strength when a need was still open elsewhere.
R7.23 · Pick 243 · Daequan Hardy · CB · rank 231
Daequan Hardy at Round 7, Pick 23 is money in the bank, a cornerback taken below his worth. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
R7.31 · Pick 251 · Evan Williams · S · rank 295
Evan Williams at the 251st overall pick is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. A want dressed up as a pick, at a spot they had covered.
