The move everyone will second-guess came early. The Packers reached some 68 spots for Charles Turner III, and value like that does not grow back. More right than wrong, and a B- to match.
Whatever else happened, they won the night they took Smith-Wade. For all the activity, edge rusher went untouched, which is hard to explain.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but edge rusher.
Pick-by-Pick
Quinyon Mitchell in slot 25 is fair value, right on his grade. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Keon Coleman at Round 2, Pick 9. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
They read the board right and Calen Bullock was the payoff at pick 57. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
They paid sticker price for Edgerrin Cooper in the 58th pick, and that is fine. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Jaylen Wright at the Round 4 slot is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
A premium they did not need to pay, Isaiah Davis a notch or two before his time. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Circle this one: Chau Smith-Wade at the 203rd pick is a fall that decides a draft. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
They paid up for Jaden Crumedy at the Round 6 slot when waiting would have done the job. Not a spot anyone had flagged, which makes it a head-scratcher.
They left a pile of value on the table to take Charles Turner III this early at Round 7, Pick 23. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
A real head-scratcher, Evan Williams in pick No. 251 is miles ahead of his ranking. They added to a strength when a need was still open elsewhere.
