The Packers clearly saw something nobody else did in John Emery Jr., taking him 97 picks ahead of his grade. The board is not convinced.

If one pick saves this weekend, it is Braswell. That quarterback hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall.

The trenches got the money picks, top to bottom.

Good work on the whole, with quarterback the one box left unchecked.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.25 · Pick 25 · Byron Murphy II · DL · rank 40
In No. 25 they get a wrecking ball inside, reach and all. A clean fit for the roster.
R2.9 · Pick 41 · Jackson Powers-Johnson · C · rank 51
A reach for Jackson Powers-Johnson in pick No. 41; a little patience would have been rewarded. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
R2.25 · Pick 57 · Edgerrin Cooper · LB · rank 58
A straight-up fair deal on Edgerrin Cooper at Round 2, Pick 25, value and slot in agreement. A minor need, but a need all the same.
R3.25 · Pick 88 · Malachi Corley · WR · rank 79
Malachi Corley slipping to the 88th overall pick is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. A need, and now a little less of one.
R3.28 · Pick 91 · Chris Braswell · LB-EDGE · rank 57
They barely believed it either: Chris Braswell still on the board at pick 91. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
R4.25 · Pick 125 · Will Shipley · RB · rank 133
They paid up for Will Shipley at slot 125 when waiting would have done the job. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
R4.35 · Pick 135 · Malik Mustapha · S · rank 139
No edge and no loss on Malik Mustapha in the 135th pick; it is a wash and a sensible one. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
R6.28 · Pick 203 · Josh Proctor · S · rank 187
The board had Josh Proctor higher than the 203rd overall pick, and the safety fell to them anyway. Pure best-available; the position was not exactly begging.
R6.42 · Pick 217 · Christian Jones · OT · rank 197
They robbed the room for Christian Jones here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
R6.44 · Pick 219 · Dwight McGlothern · CB · rank 257
Dwight McGlothern in pick 219 is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
R7.26 · Pick 246 · John Emery Jr. · RB · rank 343
A big swing on John Emery Jr. at the Round 7 slot, well ahead of any board in the building. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
