If confidence were a draft strategy, the Packers would have aced it. John Emery Jr. at the Round 7 slot is 97 spots clear of where he belonged. Solid and sensible more than spectacular: a B-.
The Smith-Wade pick is the one they will point to when this weekend is judged. That quarterback hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall. Job largely done: edge rusher settled and 6 of 8 of the wish list covered.

In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the quarterback spot they never got to.
Pick-by-Pick
In slot 25 they get an anchor for the defensive front, reach and all.
They liked Jackson Powers-Johnson enough to skip the value, taking him in the Round 2 slot. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
The board had Devontez Walker higher than No. 57, and the wide receiver fell to them anyway. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Edgerrin Cooper at the 88th overall pick is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Darius Robinson in pick 91 is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Will Shipley in pick No. 125 is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Malik Mustapha in Round 4, Pick 35 is fair value, right on his grade. A minor itch, scratched.
LaDarius Henderson at slot 203 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Circle this one: Chau Smith-Wade at pick No. 217 is a fall that decides a draft. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Demani Richardson well ahead of where he belonged. A want more than a need, though you can never have too many.
