If confidence were a draft strategy, the 49ers would have aced it. Skyler Gill-Howard at pick 127 is 24 spots clear of where he belonged. They moved the roster forward and banked a B- for it.
If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through wide receiver. Whatever else happened, they won the night they took Lee III. They went 5 of 8 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for.
Not a headline-grabber, but a perfectly good weekend's work.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick 27 they get a premier pass rusher, even if it was a touch early. A real need, handled.
A reach for Chase Bisontis in pick No. 58; a little patience would have been rewarded. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Skyler Gill-Howard at the 127th overall pick is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Jack Endries at the Round 4 slot is the proof. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
They read the board right and Will Lee III was the payoff at slot 138. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Harold Perkins Jr. in the 139th pick lands just on the right side of the ledger. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
