New England Patriots

Nobody dealt better than the Patriots this weekend: A-.

by NE4EVER · 2024 NFL Draft · 10 picks · 4 steals · 4 reaches
Value B
Need B
Trades A+
Future A+

The move everyone will second-guess came early. The Patriots reached some 33 spots for Michael Pratt, and value like that does not grow back. One of the weekend's best, top to bottom, and a A- to show for it.

They robbed the room blind at the table, and it lifts the grade on its own. They will answer for taking TE-EDGE early while interior defensive lineman, safety and other spots went begging.

The Burton pick is the one they will point to when this weekend is judged. For all the activity, interior defensive lineman went untouched, which is hard to explain.

Bottom line, they left the weekend a clearly better team, and they earned every bit of it.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.24 · Pick 24 · Dallas Turner · LB-EDGE · rank 15
In slot 24 they get a quarterback's worst nightmare at a price that makes it sweeter. Exactly the need they had to hit.
R2.2 · Pick 34 · Amarius Mims · OT · rank 23
They read the board right and Amarius Mims was the payoff at the 34th pick. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
R2.15 · Pick 47 · Kiran Amegadjie · OT · rank 64
Kiran Amegadjie in No. 47 is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
R2.24 · Pick 56 · T.J. Tampa · CB · rank 48
The board had T.J. Tampa higher than pick No. 56, and the cornerback fell to them anyway. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
R3.4 · Pick 68 · Jermaine Burton · WR · rank 51
Value with a capital V on Jermaine Burton in Round 3, Pick 4, a genuine coup. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
R3.24 · Pick 87 · Cade Stover · TE-EDGE · rank 82
A surprising call. With interior defensive lineman, safety and other spots still to address, they spent the Round 3 slot on Cade Stover, a TE-EDGE they were not short of.
R4.4 · Pick 104 · Michael Pratt · QB · rank 137
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Michael Pratt well ahead of where he belonged. It fills a real need, too.
R4.36 · Pick 136 · Dallin Holker · TE · rank 157
Dallin Holker at the 136th overall pick is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
R6.7 · Pick 182 · Jha'Quan Jackson · WR · rank 178
A tidy little value on Jha'Quan Jackson in the Round 6 slot, a step better than break-even. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
R7.9 · Pick 229 · Carter Bradley · QB · rank 257
Carter Bradley at the 229th pick is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
