The one hole that towered over the rest is filled. The Patriots spent their marquee pick on Jayden Daniels, and for the first time in a while there is a real answer at quarterback.
The Jones steal is the beam this whole class leans on. The dealing alone would carry a lesser class. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped edge rusher, which is a strange place to end up.
The kind of weekend a front office frames and hangs on the wall.
Pick-by-Pick
In slot 13 they get a seam-stretching tight end. A real need, handled.
In No. 15 they get a franchise quarterback, and a steal at that. A clean fit for the roster.
Olumuyiwa Fashanu is a better player than the 23rd pick suggests; smart patience, rewarded. The roster fit checks out.
Troy Fautanu slipping to pick 36 is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Value with a capital V on Adonai Mitchell in the 48th overall pick, a genuine coup. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Taking T.J. Tampa in pick No. 76 is close to grand larceny; a cornerback that good had no business lasting this long. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Junior Colson at Round 3, Pick 15 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
The board fumbled Elijah Jones all the way to the Round 5 slot, and they scooped it up. Nice player, but the depth chart did not need him here.
Somehow Evan Williams was still sitting there in pick 246, and they pounced on premier safety value. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
