New England Patriots

The Patriots answered their biggest question with Daniels. Grade: A-.

The one hole that towered over the rest is filled. The Patriots spent their marquee pick on Jayden Daniels, and for the first time in a while there is a real answer at quarterback.

The Jones steal is the beam this whole class leans on. The dealing alone would carry a lesser class. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped edge rusher, which is a strange place to end up.

The kind of weekend a front office frames and hangs on the wall.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.13 · Pick 13 · Brock Bowers · TE · rank 6
In slot 13 they get a seam-stretching tight end. A real need, handled.
R1.15 · Pick 15 · Jayden Daniels · QB · rank 7
In No. 15 they get a franchise quarterback, and a steal at that. A clean fit for the roster.
R1.23 · Pick 23 · Olumuyiwa Fashanu · OT · rank 8
Olumuyiwa Fashanu is a better player than the 23rd pick suggests; smart patience, rewarded. The roster fit checks out.
R2.4 · Pick 36 · Troy Fautanu · OT · rank 23
Troy Fautanu slipping to pick 36 is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
R2.16 · Pick 48 · Adonai Mitchell · WR · rank 32
Value with a capital V on Adonai Mitchell in the 48th overall pick, a genuine coup. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
R3.12 · Pick 76 · T.J. Tampa · CB · rank 48
Taking T.J. Tampa in pick No. 76 is close to grand larceny; a cornerback that good had no business lasting this long. It adds depth where they could use a little.
R3.15 · Pick 79 · Junior Colson · LB · rank 49
Junior Colson at Round 3, Pick 15 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
R5.24 · Pick 160 · Elijah Jones · CB · rank 117
The board fumbled Elijah Jones all the way to the Round 5 slot, and they scooped it up. Nice player, but the depth chart did not need him here.
R7.26 · Pick 246 · Evan Williams · S · rank 214
Somehow Evan Williams was still sitting there in pick 246, and they pounced on premier safety value. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
