Some picks age like wine; Patrick Paul at No. 29 will need to, sitting 40 spots clear of his grade. Solid and sensible more than spectacular: a B.
They robbed the room blind at the table, and it lifts the grade on its own. Leaving wide receiver unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall.
Good work on the whole, with wide receiver the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
In slot 29 they get a building block for the line, a steep price for the projection. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
They went early on Christian Haynes in pick No. 56, and the value did not follow. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Trey Benson in the Round 3 slot is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Value said wait; Matt Goncalves in the 87th pick says they were not listening. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Layden Robinson in the 174th overall pick is exactly on the number, no argument either way. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
They jumped the gun on Frank Gore Jr., taking him earlier than his grade liked. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
A market-rate offensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Tylan Grable. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
A premium they did not need to pay, Kimani Vidal a notch or two before his time. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
