The search is over. The Commanders handed the keys to Drake Maye, and the whole operation now runs on his development.
Whatever else happened, they won the night they took Barrett. If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through wide receiver.
Stockpiling next year's capital is patient, if unglamorous, asset work. Tight end was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job.
Not a headline-grabber, but a perfectly good weekend's work.
Pick-by-Pick
In the Round 1 slot they get a long-term answer under center. A real need, handled.
Fair-plus on Chop Robinson, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
The board had Kiran Amegadjie higher than pick No. 67, and the offensive lineman fell to them anyway. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
They will replay Christian Mahogany at slot 101 for years; that is how good the value is. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Matt Goncalves at Round 4, Pick 9 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the offensive lineman. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Ben Sinnott in the 138th pick is exactly on the number, no argument either way. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Austin Booker in the 166th overall pick is fair value, right on his grade. It fills a real need, too.
No edge and no loss on Frank Gore Jr. in No. 175; it is a wash and a sensible one. A need, and now a little less of one.
They robbed the room for Ty'Ron Hopper here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Somehow Michael Barrett was still sitting there in pick No. 220, and they pounced on premier linebacker value. Pure best-available; the position was not exactly begging.
