The search is over. The Commanders handed the keys to Drake Maye, and the whole operation now runs on his development. A dependable weekend that grades out a B-.
Landing Jackson that late papers over a lot of smaller sins. A whole weekend of picks and running back is somehow still a want.
Puni has a lot of ground to make up just to look fairly priced. The roster is better shaped than it was, with wide receiver chief among the fixes.
Good work on the whole, with running back the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick 2 they get their guy under center for the next decade at fair value. A real need, handled.
No drama and no debate, Ja'Tavion Sanders went about where he belonged in the 36th pick. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Kamari Lassiter at slot 40 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Kiran Amegadjie in No. 67 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
A conviction pick on Dominick Puni at pick No. 78 that the board grades a round light. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
They paid sticker price for Christian Mahogany in the 100th overall pick, and that is fine. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Nice patience on James Williams, who had no business lasting to Round 5, Pick 3. It adds depth where they could use a little.
A market-rate edge rusher, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Brennan Jackson. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
They will replay Jha'Quan Jackson at No. 222 for years; that is how good the value is. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
