The value of the weekend has a name and a slot: Junior Colson, the 88th overall pick, roughly 42 picks past where he belonged. More right than wrong, and a B- to match.
The cost of the Jennings reach is exactly the players who went right after him. They will answer for taking linebacker early while edge rusher, cornerback and other spots went begging.
For all the activity, edge rusher went untouched, which is hard to explain. On the needs board they went 2 of 8, with running back the one that mattered most.
Good work on the whole, with edge rusher the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
In slot 25 they get a long-term starter on the line. A clean fit for the roster.
They took Edgerrin Cooper at par in the Round 2 slot, which is nothing to complain about. A minor need, but a need all the same.
A clean, defensible pick in Round 2, Pick 26 with a little surplus value in Javon Bullard. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
The needs board was loud and they turned it down, spending pick 88 on Junior Colson with edge rusher, cornerback and other spots unsolved.
By-the-book stuff, MarShawn Lloyd at pick No. 91 squarely in line with his ranking. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
A surprising call. With edge rusher, cornerback and other spots still to address, they spent No. 126 on Trevin Wallace, a linebacker they were not short of.
Somehow Caedan Wallace was still sitting there in the 169th overall pick, and they pounced on premier offensive lineman value. It fills a real need, too.
Evan Williams in the 202nd pick is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. A luxury on a unit that was already in good shape.
They liked Jacob Monk enough to skip the value, taking him in the 219th overall pick. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Jalen Sundell at pick No. 245 is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
They left a pile of value on the table to take Donovan Jennings this early at pick 255. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
