They will call it conviction in the building and a reach everywhere else: Garrett Dellinger, 59 picks early at Round 7, Pick 22.
That is a linebacker worth more than the slot they spent on him, plainly. For all the activity, edge rusher went untouched, which is hard to explain.
A workmanlike haul that should hold up just fine.
Pick-by-Pick
In Round 1, Pick 4 they get a ballhawk on the outside. More want than need.
Aireontae Ersery at pick No. 38 is a conviction pick that outran the value. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
A big swing on Deone Walker at No. 69, well ahead of any board in the building. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
They paid sticker price for Ozzy Trapilo in slot 77, and that is fine. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
They read the board right and Jaylin Noel was the payoff at the 106th overall pick. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
They talked themselves into Jake Briningstool at pick 144, and the board did not agree. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Taking Jack Kiser in slot 217 is close to grand larceny; a linebacker that good had no business lasting this long. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
They liked Cam Horsley enough to skip the value, taking him in pick 220. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Garrett Dellinger in pick No. 238 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
