Start where it matters. The Commanders took Caleb Williams to run the offense for the next decade, and every other decision this weekend bends around that one. They moved the roster forward and banked a B for it.
The Hopper pick is the one the value grade keeps tripping over. They punted on wide receiver, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest.
If one pick saves this weekend, it is Mitchell.
A tidy weekend of work that should hold up just fine.
Pick-by-Pick
In No. 2 they get their quarterback of the future. A real need, handled.
Quinyon Mitchell at pick 36 is money in the bank, a cornerback taken below his worth. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
They did well to land Ja'Tavion Sanders in the Round 2 slot, just ahead of his grade. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Kingsley Suamataia in the 67th pick is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Austin Booker at pick No. 78 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Dominick Puni at slot 100. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Roger Rosengarten at the 139th overall pick nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
A wild overpay on Ty'Ron Hopper in Round 5, Pick 16, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
No edge and no loss on Frank Gore Jr. in Round 7, Pick 2; it is a wash and a sensible one. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
