Somebody took the Commanders to the cleaners. The deals they made bled real value, and the whole class wears it.
Leaving edge rusher unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall. They are betting Jackson proves the room right and everyone else wrong. The Hunter steal is the beam this whole class leans on.
They went 6 of 8 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for.
A rough weekend that leaves the roster with more questions than answers.
Pick-by-Pick
Carnell Tate at Round 1, Pick 15 is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Emmanuel Pregnon is a better player than slot 52 suggests; smart patience, rewarded. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Lee Hunter in No. 65. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Nice patience on Germie Bernard, who had no business lasting to the 71st pick. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Daylen Everette in the 84th overall pick is fair value, right on his grade. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
No edge and no loss on Dametrious Crownover in the Round 5 slot; it is a wash and a sensible one. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Nate Boerkircher in pick 155 is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Value said wait; Domani Jackson in pick No. 160 says they were not listening. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Matt Gulbin at Round 6, Pick 2 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
They paid a round early for Pat Coogan in pick 187, more than the board wanted. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
By-the-book stuff, Jalen Stroman at slot 209 squarely in line with his ranking. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Le'Veon Moss at pick No. 223 is the proof. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
