The Eagles did not so much draft Cedric Gray as overpay for him, 38 picks clear of his grade. It sets an uneasy tone for the weekend.
They punted on edge rusher, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest. The Mitchell pick is the one they will point to when this weekend is judged.
With edge rusher, wide receiver and other spots unsolved, spending premium capital on linebacker is the choice that costs them. Job largely done: cornerback settled and 3 of 9 of the wish list covered.
In short, they left a little better than they arrived, which is the whole idea.
Pick-by-Pick
In the Round 1 slot they get an island corner at fair value. Exactly the need they had to hit.
A cornerback of that caliber at pick No. 50 is the definition of value, full stop. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
