The Cowboys bet big and early on Jackson Sirmon, 68 picks ahead of the board. Bold does not always mean right. Hard to defend, and the D+ reflects that.
They handed away value on the phones that the picks cannot earn back. The whole projection now runs through Jayden Daniels; hit there and everything else looks smarter. For all the activity, tight end went untouched, which is hard to explain.
Getting Rosemy-Jacksaint where they did is the sort of value that quietly makes a class.
Bottom line, they will need several of these picks to beat their grades just to break even, and tight end is still a hole.
Pick-by-Pick
In slot 7 they get their guy under center for the next decade. A real need, handled.
In the 27th pick they get an island corner at fair value. Exactly the need they had to hit.
No edge and no loss on Christian Haynes in the 56th overall pick; it is a wash and a sensible one. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
They did well to land Jaylen Wright in pick No. 76, just ahead of his grade. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
A market-rate offensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Dominick Puni. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
They paid a round early for Jordan Jefferson in Round 5, Pick 38, more than the board wanted. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
They robbed the room for Marcus Rosemy-Jacksaint here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
A real head-scratcher, Jackson Sirmon in pick No. 233 is miles ahead of his ranking. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
They took Josh Proctor at par in No. 244, which is nothing to complain about. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
