The steal of the weekend belongs to the Packers and Smith: B-.

You build a draft on nights like this. Maason Smith had no business being available in the Round 4 slot, and the Packers did the only sane thing and turned in the card. A sturdy weekend that grades out a B-.

Leaving quarterback unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall. The Richardson reach is the anchor dragging on the value grade.

It is not that Smith is a bad player; it is that the Packers had louder needs to answer first.

Nothing here to lose sleep over, and plenty to feel decent about.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.25 · Pick 25 · Rome Odunze · WR · rank 11
In Round 1, Pick 25 they get a No. 1 receiver at a price that makes it sweeter.
R2.9 · Pick 41 · Jackson Powers-Johnson · C · rank 51
A reach on Jackson Powers-Johnson in the Round 2 slot; the board had better options right there. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
R2.25 · Pick 57 · Edgerrin Cooper · LB · rank 58
Edgerrin Cooper in No. 57 is fair value, right on his grade. A minor itch, scratched.
R3.25 · Pick 88 · Mike Sainristil · CB · rank 82
Mike Sainristil at pick No. 88 nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
R3.28 · Pick 91 · Ray Davis · RB · rank 109
Ray Davis in pick 91 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
R4.25 · Pick 125 · Maason Smith · DT-EDGE · rank 87
A curious use of the 125th pick. Quarterback, tight end and other spots needed the pick; a DT-EDGE in Maason Smith did not.
R4.35 · Pick 135 · Malik Mustapha · S · rank 139
No edge and no loss on Malik Mustapha in slot 135; it is a wash and a sensible one. It adds depth where they could use a little.
R6.28 · Pick 203 · Josh Proctor · S · rank 187
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Josh Proctor in the 203rd overall pick. They doubled down on a strength rather than a need.
R6.42 · Pick 217 · Jase McClellan · RB · rank 217
A straight-up fair deal on Jase McClellan at pick No. 217, value and slot in agreement. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
R6.44 · Pick 219 · Demani Richardson · S · rank 246
A wild overpay on Demani Richardson in pick 219, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. Depth on depth, at a spot that was hardly crying out.
R7.26 · Pick 246 · J.J. Weaver · LB-EDGE · rank 228
Circle this one: J.J. Weaver at Round 7, Pick 26 is a fall that decides a draft. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
