There is conviction, and then there is this. The Packers took Tanor Bortolini a full 23 picks ahead of where the board had him, an overdraft steep enough that it colors the whole weekend.
The Packers indulged a want in Hicks while a need in quarterback, tight end and other spots stayed open. They punted on quarterback, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest.
That is a wide receiver worth more than the slot they spent on him, plainly.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the quarterback spot they never got to.
Pick-by-Pick
In No. 25 they get a ballhawk on the outside, outstanding value to boot. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
A straight-up fair deal on Kris Jenkins at the 41st overall pick, value and slot in agreement. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
No edge and no loss on Javon Bullard in the Round 2 slot; it is a wash and a sensible one. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Malachi Corley at slot 88. The roster fit checks out.
