The John Emery Jr. pick is the one that will follow the Packers into the fall. They took him 91 spots ahead of his grade, and the board is not shy about saying so.
Pritchett at that cost is the sort of edge that compounds over a roster. Spending an early pick on safety with edge rusher, quarterback and other spots open is the decision the grade keeps circling back to.
Leaving edge rusher unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall. They went 4 of 8 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for.
Good work on the whole, with edge rusher the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
In slot 25 they get a lockdown presence outside. The biggest hole, addressed.
Jackson Powers-Johnson in the 41st pick is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Calen Bullock slipping to pick No. 57 is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Bucky Irving at No. 88 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
A curious use of Round 3, Pick 28. Edge rusher, quarterback and other spots needed the pick; a safety in Jaden Hicks did not.
They paid up for Cedric Gray at the 126th overall pick when waiting would have done the job. A minor need, but a need all the same.
You do not let a cornerback like Nehemiah Pritchett reach the 168th pick and blink. They did not. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Christian Jones at No. 203 nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. It fills a real need, too.
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Nathaniel Watson. A want dressed up as a pick, at a spot they had covered.
Value said wait; Jordan Whittington in the Round 7 slot says they were not listening. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
A swing that ignored the value entirely, John Emery Jr. well ahead of where he belonged. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
