This is the pick they will still be bragging about in July: Nehemiah Pritchett, the No. 142 name on the board, stolen at slot 203. It nets out to a B-, which feels about right.
If Jones pans out, nobody remembers the price. If not, this is the pick they hear about. With edge rusher, quarterback and other spots unsolved, spending premium capital on safety is the choice that costs them.
They covered a lot of ground and still skipped edge rusher, which is a strange place to end up. They left with cornerback solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but edge rusher.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 25th pick they get a potential shutdown corner. Exactly the need they had to hit.
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Keon Coleman in slot 41. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Edgerrin Cooper at No. 57 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. A minor itch, scratched.
A reach on Tykee Smith in the 88th overall pick; the board had better options right there. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Value said wait; Jarrian Jones in the Round 3 slot says they were not listening. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
A surprising call. With edge rusher, quarterback and other spots still to address, they spent Round 4, Pick 26 on Cole Bishop, a safety they were not short of.
A reach for Isaiah Davis in pick 168; a little patience would have been rewarded. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
They will replay Nehemiah Pritchett at pick No. 203 for years; that is how good the value is. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
You do not let an offensive lineman like Christian Jones reach pick No. 216 and blink. They did not. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
A reasonable price with a little left over, Nathaniel Watson in Round 7, Pick 23. Nice player, but the depth chart did not need him here.
They reached a country mile for Evan Williams at No. 251, and the board is aghast. Depth on depth, at a spot that was hardly crying out.
