Every so often the board makes a mistake, and the Packers were there to profit. Trevor Keegan, the No. 156 name on the board, should have been long gone before pick No. 219.
The cost of the Williams reach is exactly the players who went right after him. The Packers indulged a want in Oladapo while a need in edge rusher, cornerback and other spots stayed open.
They covered a lot of ground and still skipped edge rusher, which is a strange place to end up. Running back was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but edge rusher.
Pick-by-Pick
In Round 1, Pick 25 they get protection for the quarterback. A clean fit for the roster.
Fair-plus on Jordan Morgan, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Javon Bullard at the 58th overall pick is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the safety. It adds depth where they could use a little.
MarShawn Lloyd at pick No. 88 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
They left a pile of value on the table to take Trevin Wallace this early at slot 91. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
The eyebrow-raiser of the weekend. They went safety with Kitan Oladapo while clear needs at edge rusher, cornerback and other spots sat open.
A real head-scratcher, Evan Williams in No. 169 is miles ahead of his ranking. They doubled down on a strength rather than a need.
Jordan Magee at the Round 6 slot is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. Nice player, but the depth chart did not need him here.
They will replay Trevor Keegan at Round 6, Pick 44 for years; that is how good the value is. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Tylan Grable at slot 245 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Taking KT Leveston in the Round 7 slot is close to grand larceny; an offensive lineman that good had no business lasting this long. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
