The war room fell hard for Dwight McGlothern, and it showed at Round 6, Pick 44: 38 picks ahead of a board that had other ideas. Solid and sensible more than spectacular: a B-.
Sweat falling to them is the kind of break a good board is built to catch. The quarterback hole is the one line item this class does not answer.
Edge rusher is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it. Nearly every premium pick went to that side of the ball.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the quarterback spot they never got to.
Pick-by-Pick
In Round 1, Pick 25 they get a quarterback's worst nightmare, even if it was a touch early. The biggest hole, addressed.
No edge and no loss on Calen Bullock in slot 41; it is a wash and a sensible one. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
By-the-book stuff, Edgerrin Cooper at the 57th pick squarely in line with his ranking. It adds depth where they could use a little.
A top-tier interior defensive lineman at a bargain, T'Vondre Sweat in pick 88, plain and simple. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
A tidy bit of business in No. 91, where Malachi Corley graded well above the range. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Will Shipley at the Round 4 slot jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Jaylen Wright at the 135th pick is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
They did well to land Christian Jones in No. 203, just ahead of his grade. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Demani Richardson well ahead of where he belonged. It is more luxury than necessity; they were already set here.
They reached a country mile for Dwight McGlothern at the 219th overall pick, and the board is aghast. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Evan Williams at pick No. 246 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. A want more than a need, though you can never have too many.
