The rest of the league had time to spare on Carson Steele; the Cowboys did not wait, grabbing him 71 spots ahead at pick 242. The bottom line is a respectable B.
However the rest shakes out, Mims at that price is a win they earned. For all the activity, quarterback went untouched, which is hard to explain.
They left with wide receiver solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off. Building through the lines is a philosophy, and they stuck to it.
Good work on the whole, with quarterback the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 24th overall pick they get a building block for the line. Exactly the need they had to hit.
They robbed the room for Amarius Mims here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Xavier Worthy at No. 87 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Jaylan Ford in the Round 5 slot is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
A top-tier cornerback at a bargain, Elijah Jones in the 213th pick, plain and simple. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
They reached into another round for Zion Logue, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Value said wait; Carson Steele in slot 242 says they were not listening. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
