If confidence were a draft strategy, the Packers would have aced it. Clark Barrington at Round 6, Pick 42 is 158 spots clear of where he belonged. More right than wrong, and a B to match.

With quarterback, wide receiver and other spots unsolved, spending premium capital on safety is the choice that costs them. If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through quarterback.

The imported veterans give this class a floor the draft picks could not on their own. Stockpiling next year's capital is patient, if unglamorous, asset work.

A competent weekend that does not make headlines and does not need to.
