Somewhere a scout is still blinking. The Browns spent No. 149 on Eli Heidenreich, a name the board had a full 93 spots lower.

Whatever else happened, they won the night they took Ponds. They punted on interior defensive lineman, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest.

A tidy weekend of work that should hold up just fine.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.24 · Pick 24 · Olaivavega Ioane · OG · rank 22
In pick 24 they get an anchor for the offensive line. A real need, handled.
R1.28 · Pick 28 · Omar Cooper Jr. · WR · rank 34
In the Round 1 slot they get a weapon on the perimeter at fair value. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
R2.6 · Pick 38 · Gennings Dunker · OT · rank 49
A conviction pick on Gennings Dunker at the 38th overall pick that the board grades a round light. The roster fit checks out.
R2.7 · Pick 39 · Emmanuel Pregnon · OG · rank 39
They paid sticker price for Emmanuel Pregnon in No. 39, and that is fine. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
R2.30 · Pick 62 · Caden Curry · DE-EDGE · rank 131
Caden Curry at Round 2, Pick 30 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
R3.6 · Pick 70 · D'Angelo Ponds · CB · rank 47
Steal is underselling it; D'Angelo Ponds at the 70th pick is a heist with the alarm still ringing. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
R4.6 · Pick 106 · Davison Igbinosun · CB · rank 113
Davison Igbinosun at pick 106 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
R4.7 · Pick 107 · Trey Zuhn III · OT · rank 125
This one needs a full-page explanation: Trey Zuhn III in the Round 4 slot, miles early. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
R4.8 · Pick 108 · Cole Payton · QB · rank 198
Cole Payton at Round 4, Pick 8 is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
R5.6 · Pick 146 · Louis Moore · S · rank 166
Louis Moore in slot 146 is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
R5.9 · Pick 149 · Eli Heidenreich · WR · rank 242
They talked themselves into Eli Heidenreich at pick No. 149, and the board did not agree. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
R6.25 · Pick 206 · Riley Nowakowski · TE · rank 216
Riley Nowakowski in No. 206 is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
R7.32 · Pick 248 · Riley Mahlman · OT · rank 292
A wild overpay on Riley Mahlman in the 248th pick, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
