The Dolphins spent the weekend waiting on one name, and it fell: Jacob Cowing, the No. 127 name on the board, in No. 158. The bottom line is a respectable B-.
Leaving edge rusher unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall. The Milton III reach is the anchor dragging on the value grade.
They left with quarterback solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off.
All told, a draft that does its job without fuss, and there is real value in that.
Pick-by-Pick
Jackson Powers-Johnson in the 27th overall pick is exactly on the number, no argument either way. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Taking Kool-Aid McKinstry in the Round 2 slot is close to grand larceny; a cornerback that good had no business lasting this long. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
They paid sticker price for Dominick Puni in pick No. 90, and that is fine. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Jared Wiley at the 138th pick is right where the board had him, plain and simple. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Jacob Cowing at pick 158 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
A reasonable price with a little left over, Trevor Keegan in Round 5, Pick 26. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Nothing to complain about; Ty'Ron Hopper went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. The roster fit checks out.
They talked themselves into Joe Milton III at No. 198, and the board did not agree. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Garret Greenfield slipping to the 241st pick is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
