When the story of this class is written, it opens with Dominic Zvada at the 24th pick, a reach of 277 spots that the board flatly disagrees with.
They handed away value on the phones that the picks cannot earn back. The Zvada pick reads as want over need, and the roster will feel it at interior defensive lineman, tight end and other spots.
If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through interior defensive lineman. However the rest shakes out, Hall at that price is a win they earned.
Bottom line, they will need several of these picks to beat their grades just to break even, and interior defensive lineman is still a hole.
Pick-by-Pick
Of all the spots to shop, they chose specialist. Dominic Zvada in pick 24 leaves interior defensive lineman, tight end and other spots for later.
Jake Golday slid further than he should have, and No. 75 is lovely value for the edge rusher. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Connor Lew at pick No. 107 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Nice patience on Hezekiah Masses, who had no business lasting to the Round 5 slot. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Value with a capital V on Cade Klubnik in Round 5, Pick 9, a genuine coup. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Kendrick Law at slot 206 is the proof. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Steal is underselling it; TJ Hall at the 248th pick is a heist with the alarm still ringing. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
