The Packers did not reach, did not trade up, did not blink. They just waited, and Jaylin Simpson fell into the 168th pick.
Every deal seemed to tilt their way, which is not luck. If Reed pans out, nobody remembers the price. If not, this is the pick they hear about.
For all the activity, wide receiver went untouched, which is hard to explain.
Bottom line, with Dallas Turner leading the way, this is a class that should pay off fast and rarely be regretted.
Pick-by-Pick
In No. 26 they get a disruptor off the edge, outstanding value to boot. Exactly the need they had to hit.
A straight-up fair deal on Tyler Nubin at the 41st overall pick, value and slot in agreement. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
No drama and no debate, Dominick Puni went about where he belonged in Round 3, Pick 25. A need, and now a little less of one.
Jaylen Wright slipping to the Round 3 slot is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Matt Goncalves at slot 125 is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
They robbed the room for Jaylin Simpson here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
They reached a country mile for Austin Reed at pick 201, and the board is aghast. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Erick All at pick No. 219 is money in the bank, a tight end taken below his worth. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Frank Gore Jr. at pick 245 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Steal is underselling it; Trevin Wallace at the 255th overall pick is a heist with the alarm still ringing. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
