The best pick of the weekend was also the simplest. The Cowboys watched Denzel Burke slide 41 picks past his grade and did not hesitate. It does the job without flash, and the B+ reflects it.
The trade ledger is the best part of the whole weekend. They will regret leaving quarterback for another day if the season turns on it. Davis has a lot of ground to make up just to look fairly priced.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but quarterback.
Pick-by-Pick
R1.30
· Pick 30
· Keon Coleman
· WR
· rank 28
In Round 1, Pick 30 they get a home-run threat at receiver. The biggest hole, addressed.
R2.24
· Pick 56
· T.J. Tampa
· CB
· rank 46
Nice patience on T.J. Tampa, who had no business lasting to pick No. 56. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
R3.24
· Pick 87
· Calen Bullock
· S
· rank 52
They robbed the room for Calen Bullock here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. A minor need, but a need all the same.
R3.25
· Pick 88
· Jeremiah Trotter Jr.
· LB
· rank 64
You do not let a linebacker like Jeremiah Trotter Jr. reach slot 88 and blink. They did not. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
R3.26
· Pick 89
· Denzel Burke
· CB
· rank 48
The board fumbled Denzel Burke all the way to the 89th overall pick, and they scooped it up. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
R3.28
· Pick 91
· Christian Mahogany
· OG
· rank 86
Christian Mahogany in the 91st pick is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
R3.30
· Pick 93
· Ricky Pearsall
· WR
· rank 70
Taking Ricky Pearsall in the Round 3 slot is close to grand larceny; a wide receiver that good had no business lasting this long. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
R3.34
· Pick 97
· Tyler Davis
· DT
· rank 98
Tyler Davis at No. 97 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. The roster fit checks out.
R3.36
· Pick 99
· Audric Estime
· RB
· rank 104
Audric Estime in the 99th pick is fair value, right on his grade. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
R4.24
· Pick 124
· Tommy Eichenberg
· LB
· rank 109
The board had Tommy Eichenberg higher than No. 124, and the linebacker fell to them anyway. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
R5.26
· Pick 162
· Jasheen Davis
· DL-EDGE
· rank 175
The board had cheaper options than Jasheen Davis at Round 5, Pick 26, and it noticed. It adds depth where they could use a little.
R5.38
· Pick 174
· Justin Eboigbe
· DL-EDGE
· rank 178
By-the-book stuff, Justin Eboigbe at pick 174 squarely in line with his ranking. Depth on depth, at a spot that was hardly crying out.
R6.37
· Pick 212
· Isaiah Davis
· RB
· rank 215
Isaiah Davis in the Round 6 slot is exactly on the number, no argument either way. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
R7.25
· Pick 245
· Isaiah Williams
· WR
· rank 218
A top-tier wide receiver at a bargain, Isaiah Williams in slot 245, plain and simple. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
