The Patriots spent the weekend waiting on one name, and it fell: Oronde Gadsden II, the No. 181 name on the board, in the Round 7 slot. They moved the roster forward and banked a B- for it.
Reaching for Higgins left real value on the table behind him. That edge rusher hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall.
They went 4 of 8 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for. The trenches got the money picks, top to bottom.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but edge rusher.
Pick-by-Pick
In slot 4 they get an anchor for the offensive line. A real need, handled.
Value said wait; Jayden Higgins in pick No. 38 says they were not listening. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Fair-plus on Jack Bech, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
A slide stopped in the Round 3 slot, with Quinshon Judkins worth more than the price. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Jaylin Noel at Round 4, Pick 4. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
By-the-book stuff, Logan Brown at the 144th overall pick squarely in line with his ranking. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
They talked themselves into Miles Frazier at No. 217, and the board did not agree. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
They barely believed it either: Oronde Gadsden II still on the board at pick 220. The roster fit checks out.
Trevor Etienne in the 238th pick is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
