Every other box got a look, but interior defensive lineman did not. The Giants will head to camp with the same hole they walked in with.
That is a cornerback worth more than the slot they spent on him, plainly. Every board in the league had Baker lower, and that gap is the story. The trade work was a quiet net positive.
All told, a draft that does its job without fuss, and there is real value in that.
Pick-by-Pick
In No. 6 they get a No. 1 receiver. Exactly the need they had to hit.
No drama and no debate, Bralen Trice went about where he belonged in the Round 2 slot. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Nice patience on Kalen King, who had no business lasting to Round 2, Pick 26. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Zak Zinter at the 89th overall pick is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Tykee Smith at the 107th pick is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Will Shipley slid further than he should have, and slot 143 is lovely value for the running back. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
A premium they did not need to pay, Javon Baker a notch or two before his time. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Jaylan Ford at pick No. 185. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
