Minnesota Vikings

Nix is the plan now, and the Vikings grade out a B+.

The search is over. The Vikings handed the keys to Bo Nix, and the whole operation now runs on his development. A sturdy weekend that grades out a B+.

They won the margins on every swap, and it adds up fast. That is an offensive lineman worth more than the slot they spent on him, plainly. McCaffrey has a lot of ground to make up just to look fairly priced.

The running back hole is the one line item this class does not answer.

In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the running back spot they never got to.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.22 · Pick 22 · Bo Nix · QB · rank 30
In the 22nd pick they get a long-term answer under center, though they paid up to get him. The biggest hole, addressed.
R1.23 · Pick 23 · Terrion Arnold · CB · rank 18
Good price on Terrion Arnold in the Round 1 slot, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
R2.19 · Pick 51 · Amarius Mims · OT · rank 24
Circle this one: Amarius Mims at pick No. 51 is a fall that decides a draft. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
R4.8 · Pick 108 · Mekhi Wingo · DT · rank 108
They paid sticker price for Mekhi Wingo in Round 4, Pick 8, and that is fine. A need, and now a little less of one.
R4.20 · Pick 120 · Cedric Gray · LB · rank 114
They did well to land Cedric Gray in slot 120, just ahead of his grade. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
R4.29 · Pick 129 · Luke McCaffrey · WR · rank 149
They left a pile of value on the table to take Luke McCaffrey this early at the 129th overall pick. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
R5.21 · Pick 157 · Mason McCormick · OT · rank 146
They read the board right and Mason McCormick was the payoff at No. 157. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
R5.31 · Pick 167 · Nelson Ceaser · DL-EDGE · rank 165
Nelson Ceaser in pick 167 is fair value, right on his grade. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
R6.2 · Pick 177 · Jaheim Bell · TE · rank 164
Jaheim Bell at pick 177 is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. It fills a real need, too.
R7.10 · Pick 230 · Nathaniel Watson · LB · rank 212
A linebacker of that caliber at slot 230 is the definition of value, full stop. Stacking talent where they were already deep.
R7.12 · Pick 232 · Evan Williams · S · rank 214
They barely believed it either: Evan Williams still on the board at Round 7, Pick 12. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
