Every so often the board makes a mistake, and the Patriots were there to profit. Ryan Fitzgerald, the No. 117 name on the board, should have been long gone before the Round 7 slot. They executed a plan and it shows in the A.

The edge rusher spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at. Reaching for Jones Jr. left real value on the table behind him. They went 5 of 8 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for.

In short, they turned a good board into a better roster, and it shows.
