You can usually follow a front office's logic. This one is harder. The Packers spent pick No. 135 on James Williams while quarterback and interior defensive lineman sat unaddressed. It does the job without flash, and the B reflects it.
The quarterback hole is the one line item this class does not answer. The McGlothern steal is the beam this whole class leans on.
Every board in the league had Spann-Ford lower, and that gap is the story. Job largely done: edge rusher settled and 6 of 8 of the wish list covered.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the quarterback spot they never got to.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick No. 25 they get a ballhawk on the outside at fair value. The biggest hole, addressed.
Tyler Guyton at slot 41 is a conviction pick that outran the value. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Chris Braswell in the 51st overall pick. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
They paid sticker price for Jackson Powers-Johnson in the Round 2 slot, and that is fine. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
They took TreVeyon Henderson at par in pick 83, which is nothing to complain about. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Bucky Irving in Round 3, Pick 29 is fair value, right on his grade. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
A conviction pick on Jaden Hicks at the 119th pick that the board grades a round light. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Hard to square with the roster. With positions of obvious need still on the board, James Williams adds a safety and leaves quarterback and interior defensive lineman untouched.
A market-rate linebacker, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Curtis Jacobs. A minor need, but a need all the same.
They went early on Brevyn Spann-Ford in Round 6, Pick 42, and the value did not follow. It fills a real need, too.
Xavier Restrepo at No. 219 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Circle this one: Dwight McGlothern at the 240th pick is a fall that decides a draft. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
