There is conviction, and then there is this. The Chiefs took Aireontae Ersery a full 53 picks ahead of where the board had him, an overdraft steep enough that it colors the whole weekend. Fine in stretches, shaky in others: a C+.
The quarterback spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at. If one pick saves this weekend, it is Paul Jr..
Job largely done: wide receiver settled and 5 of 8 of the wish list covered.
Hit on Aireontae Ersery and the swing picks, and this ages a lot better than it grades today.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick 32 they get a cornerstone up front, though the board says they badly overpaid. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Tyler Warren in the 64th overall pick is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Elic Ayomanor in slot 68 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Devin Neal at the Round 3 slot is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Steal is underselling it; Chris Paul Jr. at No. 133 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. The roster fit checks out.
A real head-scratcher, Jaylin Noel in the 254th pick is miles ahead of his ranking. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
