Every so often the board makes a mistake, and the 49ers were there to profit. Eli Stowers, the No. 53 name on the board, should have been long gone before No. 87. A dependable weekend that grades out a B.
Every board in the league had Curry lower, and that gap is the story. They punted on wide receiver, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the wide receiver spot they never got to.
Pick-by-Pick
In the Round 1 slot they get a plug-and-play piece up front at fair value. The biggest hole, addressed.
Jake Slaughter at the 75th pick is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
They robbed the room for Eli Stowers here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
