Green Bay Packers

The Packers lost the trade table, and the C tells the story.

You can lose a draft before you make a pick. The Packers did it at the trade table, overpaying to chase players the board did not price nearly as high. It washes out to a C, no better and no worse.

For all the activity, edge rusher went untouched, which is hard to explain. Spending an early pick on safety with edge rusher, quarterback and other spots open is the decision the grade keeps circling back to. Reaching for Smith left real value on the table behind him.

Landing Legette that late papers over a lot of smaller sins.

So much rides on Edgerrin Cooper that the real verdict is a season or two away.

Pick-by-Pick

R2.9 · Pick 41 · Edgerrin Cooper · LB · rank 43
A market-rate linebacker, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Edgerrin Cooper. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
R2.12 · Pick 44 · Kingsley Suamataia · OT · rank 58
Kingsley Suamataia in slot 44 is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
R2.22 · Pick 54 · T.J. Tampa · CB · rank 49
Fair-plus on T.J. Tampa, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
R3.22 · Pick 85 · Calen Bullock · S · rank 73
Calen Bullock slid further than he should have, and the 85th pick is lovely value for the safety. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
R3.25 · Pick 88 · Xavier Legette · WR · rank 72
Xavier Legette at No. 88 is money in the bank, a wide receiver taken below his worth. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
R3.28 · Pick 91 · Trey Benson · RB · rank 94
By-the-book stuff, Trey Benson at the Round 3 slot squarely in line with his ranking. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
R4.27 · Pick 127 · Tykee Smith · S · rank 146
A want over a need in the 127th overall pick: Tykee Smith adds a safety while edge rusher, quarterback and other spots keeps waiting.
R4.29 · Pick 129 · Jarrian Jones · CB · rank 148
Jarrian Jones in pick No. 129 is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
R4.35 · Pick 135 · Dylan Laube · RB · rank 150
They paid up for Dylan Laube at the 135th overall pick when waiting would have done the job. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
R5.32 · Pick 168 · Javion Cohen · OG · rank 167
Javion Cohen in the 168th pick is exactly on the number, no argument either way. It fills a real need, too.
R6.29 · Pick 204 · Curtis Jacobs · LB · rank 196
Curtis Jacobs in pick No. 204 is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. Insurance at a position that did not really ask for it.
R7.23 · Pick 243 · LaDarius Henderson · OT · rank 244
A straight-up fair deal on LaDarius Henderson at pick 243, value and slot in agreement. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
R7.31 · Pick 251 · Jordan Magee · LB · rank 242
Jordan Magee at slot 251 is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. Stacking talent where they were already deep.
R7.35 · Pick 255 · Edefuan Ulofoshio · LB · rank 248
A reasonable price with a little left over, Edefuan Ulofoshio in No. 255. It is more luxury than necessity; they were already set here.
