Boards are made to be trusted, and the Eagles shredded theirs for Ainias Smith. He came off 51 spots early, and the room will hear about it. Hard to defend, and the D- reflects that.
They handed away value on the phones that the picks cannot earn back. The interior defensive lineman spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at.
Newton falling to them is the kind of break a good board is built to catch. Job largely done: cornerback settled and 5 of 9 of the wish list covered.
Bottom line, they will be counting on several picks to beat their grades.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick 22 they get an anchor for the offensive line. A clean fit for the roster.
Kamari Lassiter at the Round 2 slot is right where the board had him, plain and simple. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
No edge and no loss on Payton Wilson in slot 50; it is a wash and a sensible one. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
A big swing on Ainias Smith at pick No. 90, well ahead of any board in the building. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
They paid sticker price for Zak Zinter in Round 4, Pick 4, and that is fine. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
A premium they did not need to pay, Mohamed Kamara a notch or two before his time. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Jaheim Bell in No. 161 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Josh Newton in Round 5, Pick 35 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
A tidy little value on Jaylan Ford in slot 210, a step better than break-even. Insurance at a position that did not really ask for it.
