The Vikings looked at the value chart, folded it up, and took Joe Milton III at the Round 4 slot regardless, 90 picks early. A near-flawless weekend of work, and a A- to cap it.
The Jones steal is the beam this whole class leans on. The trade ledger is the best part of the whole weekend.
They will regret leaving running back for another day if the season turns on it.
In the end it comes back to Terrion Arnold, and a haul good enough to build on right away.
Pick-by-Pick
Terrion Arnold at No. 27 is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
A market-rate linebacker, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Payton Wilson. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
A tidy little value on Cooper Beebe in slot 81, a step better than break-even. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
A straight-up fair deal on Gabriel Murphy at pick 90, value and slot in agreement. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Joe Milton III in Round 4, Pick 9 is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Brennan Jackson at pick No. 156 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the edge rusher. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Mason McCormick in Round 5, Pick 30 lands just on the right side of the ledger. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Dallin Holker is a better player than pick No. 168 suggests; smart patience, rewarded. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Jarrian Jones in slot 179 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. They doubled down on a strength rather than a need.
A quiet steal in No. 190: Khristian Boyd for less than the market said. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
They paid sticker price for Drake Nugent in the 204th overall pick, and that is fine. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
The board had Tyler Owens higher than the 238th pick, and the safety fell to them anyway. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Good price on Edefuan Ulofoshio in the Round 7 slot, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. Depth on depth, at a spot that was hardly crying out.
