You could see the war room lean forward. Keon Coleman at the 69th overall pick is the sort of fall that does not happen, except it just did. A dependable weekend that grades out a B+.
The trade ledger is the best part of the whole weekend. They punted on edge rusher, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest.
The Darius Slayton pickup adds a known quantity to a class of unknowns. On the needs board they went 6 of 8, with wide receiver the one that mattered most.
A workmanlike haul that should hold up just fine.
Pick-by-Pick
A tidy little value on Joe Alt in No. 6, a step better than break-even. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
They let Kool-Aid McKinstry come to them and pounced at slot 34. It adds depth where they could use a little.
A wide receiver of that caliber at the 68th overall pick is the definition of value, full stop. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Keon Coleman in the 69th pick is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
The board had Jonathon Brooks higher than pick No. 70, and the running back fell to them anyway. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Spencer Rattler at pick 103. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
A tidy bit of business in the Round 5 slot, where Cole Bishop graded well above the range. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Trey Knox in Round 6, Pick 7 is fair value, right on his grade. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Somehow Cody Schrader was still sitting there in the 185th overall pick, and they pounced on premier running back value. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Jha'Quan Jackson in slot 224. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Circle this one: Omar Speights at the Round 7 slot is a fall that decides a draft. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
