Start where it matters. The Patriots took Drake Maye to run the offense for the next decade, and every other decision this weekend bends around that one.
The Dixon steal is the beam this whole class leans on. Every deal seemed to tilt their way, which is not luck.
They will need Reiman to outplay his draft slot in a hurry to justify it. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped edge rusher, which is a strange place to end up.
All told, a draft that does its job without fuss, and there is real value in that.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 4th pick they get a passer to set the clock by. A clean fit for the roster.
In Round 1, Pick 27 they get an anchor for the offensive line at fair value. A real need, handled.
They took Ladd McConkey at par in slot 34, which is nothing to complain about. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
They paid sticker price for Xavier Worthy in the Round 3 slot, and that is fine. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
A straight-up fair deal on Braelon Allen at No. 103, value and slot in agreement. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
A top-tier offensive lineman at a bargain, Blake Fisher in pick 104, plain and simple. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Nothing to complain about; Beau Brade went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
They robbed the room for Jarvis Brownlee Jr. here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Tip Reiman at the Round 5 slot is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Circle this one: Tommy Eichenberg at Round 6, Pick 5 is a fall that decides a draft. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
They paid up for Julian Pearl at the 193rd pick when waiting would have done the job. Not a spot anyone had flagged, which makes it a head-scratcher.
Johnny Dixon at pick 231 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. Stacking talent where they were already deep.
