The trade table was a mismatch, and the Patriots were on the right end of it, hauling in a fortune in surplus value. Just about everything broke right, and the A- follows.
Getting Warren where they did is the sort of value that quietly makes a class. A whole weekend of picks and quarterback is somehow still a want.
The kind of weekend a front office frames and hangs on the wall.
Pick-by-Pick
In the Round 1 slot they get a quarterback's worst nightmare. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
A top-tier tight end at a bargain, Tyler Warren in the 38th overall pick, plain and simple. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
No drama and no debate, Aireontae Ersery went about where he belonged in the 45th pick. A need, and now a little less of one.
A tidy bit of business in pick No. 69, where Demetrius Knight Jr. graded well above the range. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Jayden Higgins at No. 77. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
They took Malachi Moore at par in pick 105, which is nothing to complain about. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
No edge and no loss on Raheim Sanders in pick No. 145; it is a wash and a sensible one. It fills a real need, too.
Cam Jackson at slot 219 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
They paid a round early for Clay Webb in the 234th pick, more than the board wanted. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
They liked Jaylin Smith enough to skip the value, taking him in No. 240. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
