Start where it matters. The Patriots took Jayden Daniels to run the offense for the next decade, and every other decision this weekend bends around that one. They executed a plan and it shows in the A-.
That McCormick pick is the receipt they will wave around later. Every deal seemed to tilt their way, which is not luck.
The edge rusher spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at.
Bottom line, with Jayden Daniels leading the way, this is a class that should pay off fast and rarely be regretted.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick 7 they get a franchise quarterback. A clean fit for the roster.
A straight-up fair deal on Jordan Morgan at slot 34, value and slot in agreement. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Nothing to complain about; Ladd McConkey went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
A market-rate wide receiver, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Xavier Legette. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
By-the-book stuff, Braelon Allen at pick No. 103 squarely in line with his ranking. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Theo Johnson at No. 110 is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. The roster fit checks out.
They did well to land Jamari Thrash in the Round 5 slot, just ahead of his grade. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Mason McCormick in Round 6, Pick 5 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
They robbed the room for Dwight McGlothern here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. A minor need, but a need all the same.
A tidy little value on Frank Gore Jr. in the 231st pick, a step better than break-even. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
